Archana Das: A Profile of the Indian Cricketer
Born and raised in Ranchi, a city famous for its passionate love for cricket, Archana Das is an accomplished cricketer who has left her mark on both national and international pitches. Being one among only a handful of female cricketers from Jharkhand to play at international level, she has brought pride to her hometown and has been a source of inspiration to many aspiring female cricketers.
Early Life
Archana Das was born on 24th July, 1990 in Ranchi, Jharkhand. She discovered her passion for cricket at an early age and began taking formal training at the age of nine. Unlike many other players whose talent was first noticed by their school coaches, it was Archana’s father who recognized his daughter’s potential as a sports player.
Career
- In the year 2004 when she was just fourteen years old, Archana made her debut in domestic cricket playing for Bihar women’s team in under-19 category. Her skills quickly earned her recognition and she climbed up the ladder swiftly.
- Between 2008 and 2010, Archana played in Elite Group matches representing Indian Railways where she performed exceptionally well that helped escalate her career further.
- In February 2012, after impressing with consistent performances for several years in domestic circuits, she finally got the nod to represent India when was chosen as part of Indian Women’s squad that visited West Indies.
- She made her One Day International (ODI) debut against West Indies Women’s Team on February 18th, 2012 and later went on to make her T20 International debut against the same team on 23rd February, 2012.
- Although her international career was not as long as she might have hoped for with last match in September 2012, Archana Das remains a notable figure when it comes to Women’s Cricket in India due of her achievements on domestic level.
Playing Style and Achievements
As a right-arm medium-fast bowler, Archana Das has terrorized many batters with her swift deliveries. Her strongest point is undoubtedly her capacity to bowl tight spells that build pressure on the opposition.
Archana Das’s most successful performance came when playing for Indian Railways in one of the matches where she took six wickets just at expense of four runs.
Despite initially struggling to make a mark in T20 format, over time she improved enormously and became an important asset for her teams in this shorter version of game.
Legacy
Even though Archana didn’t get as many opportunities to shine on global stage, but she still proved her potential through solid performances at national level. She broke stereotypes being one from Jharkhand state emphasizing again ladies can equally share and beautifully play this gentlemen’s game too.
