B. S. Chandrasekhar: A Sagacious Cricket Legend

Bhagwat Subramanya Chandrasekhar, commonly known as B. S. Chandra Shekar or simply Chandra, is one of the greatest cricketers in the history of Indian cricket. Born on May 17, 1945, in Mysore, Karnataka, he was an integral part of the Indian spin quartet throughout most of his playing career by introducing leg break googly as a prominent bowling style to India.

Born with a polio-infected arm that subsequently became weak due to improper medical treatment, Chandrasekhar used this condition into a beneficial phenomenon for himself while trying different sport skills at school. This weakness of his right hand brought him more strength to play cricket exceptionally well using his powerful wrist action.

B. S. Chandrasekhar was awarded the prestigious Wisden Cricketer of the Year title in 1972 and he also received the Padma Shri honour by Indian government in year 1971.
