Born on January 12, 1916, C.R.Rangachari was introduced to the beautiful game of cricket during his school days at Chennai’s St George’s Grammar School. He soon developed an uncanny knack for pace bowling and made a name for himself with some scintillating performances at the club level in Madras (now Chennai).

  • In 1945, C.R.Rangachari made his first-class debut playing for Madras against Mysore.
  • A couple of years later, in India’s tour to Australia in 1947-48 under Lala Amarnath, he represented the national side. It marked his Test debut which took place at Sydney on December 12, 1947.
  • Rangachari recorded his career-best figures of 5/107 during England’s tour of India in February-March of the same year.
  • Throughout his international cricketing career spanning four years, from 1947 to 1952, Rangachari played twelve tests scoring twenty-two runs not out as his highest score till date while bagging thirty-five wickets.
  • The speedster retired from all forms of professional cricket after just over seven years following his maiden first-class appearance due to persistent injury issues.
