Chetan Pratap Singh Chauhan, widely known as Chetan Chauhan, was one of the most respected Indian cricketers and an accomplished politician. He was renowned for his imperturbable demeanor on the cricket pitch and his assertive leadership in the political sphere.
About Chauhan – Early Life and Entry into Cricket:
Born on July 21, 1947, in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, India, Chauhan grew up with a deep-rooted passion for cricket. This love for sport translated into a spectacular career that spanned over a decade from the late 1960s to early 1980s.
He made his debut in international cricket against New Zealand in Mumbai on September 25, 1969. Primarily remembered as a steady right-handed batsman, he played about 40 Test matches scoring more than 2000 runs with an average of nearly 32 runs per innings.
Milestone Achievements and Records:

In partnership with Sunil Gavaskar, another phenomenal cricketer of his time, they established several records; creating partnerships exceeding 3000 runs, which is still considered one of the highest totals established by opening batting pairs.

A distinctive record held by Chauhan was being the first player in Test history to score over enjoy an impressive 2,000 runs. However, despite this feat, he does not have any individual centuries under his name.

Chauhan was also the captain of Mumbai and Delhi teams for the Ranji Trophy, India’s premier domestic first-class cricket championship. This esteemed position underlined his leadership abilities which would later find a new outlet in politics.
Life After Cricket:
After retiring from international cricket in 1981, Chauhan turned to public service by entering into Indian politics. He became a two-time Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Amroha Constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
In addition to his political engagements, he held various crucial positions related to sport such as being the manager of Indian National Cricket Team and serving as Chairman of the Selection Committee of Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA).

Regrettably, this talented sportsman bid adieu to the world on August 16, 2020 due complications owing to COVID-19. His passing left a void both in the world of cricket and Indian politics.
