Dinesh Karthik is a renowned Indian cricketer who has significantly contributed to the world of cricket throughout his illustrious career. Born as Krishna Kumar Dinesh Karthik on June 1, 1985, he hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Karthik began passionately playing cricket at a young age. His talent quickly blossomed under the guidance of former Indian cricketer Robin Singh. He demonstrated his prowess during India’s Under-19 team tours to England, Australia and Sri Lanka and was part of the squad that finished runners-up in the 2004 U-19 World Cup.

A year later, he made his test debut against Australia in November 2004 where he replaced injured Parthiv Patel behind stumps. However, it wasn’t until February 2006 when he played an epoch-making innings of 93 runs off just 81 balls against England that brought him recognition from all corners.

  • In March 2007, during ICC World Twenty20 championship, Karthik unveiled another solid performance scoring around 17 abounding with boundaries (four fours and two sixes) which led India towards victory over South Africa.
  • Karthik had a dominant IPL season in 2018. Representing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he notched up 498 runs in just fourteen matches helping them reach playoffs.
  • The following year saw him being appointed as the captain of KKR, showcasing his leadership skills and strategic acumen.

Throughout his career, Dinesh Karthik has been bestowed with numerous recognitions. In 2007, he was awarded the CEAT Cricket Rating International award for Best Wicketkeeper-Batsman in both Test and ODI format.

  • In July 2020, under Karthik’s capable leadership, Tamil Nadu secured their second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy – India’s premier domestic T20 tournament.
  • Karthik is also well remembered for his magnificent last ball six that ensured India win over Bangladesh in the final of Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka in 2018.
