The first stepping stone in Gambhir’s career was when he joined Lal-Bahadur Shastri academy at the age of ten. As a promising player, he came into the limelight following his dazzling stint in the Under-19 games where he averaged 50 plus scores consecutively over four years. He then moved on to play domestic cricket namely Ranji trophy representing Delhi.

  • In April 2003, he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Bangladesh and continued to develop dramatically as an efficient batsman.
  • Heralded for his consistency, Gambhir achieved international recognition after scoring back-to-back centuries in five consecutive test series during 2008 and 2010.
  • Gambhir’s instrumental role led Team India winning both ICC World Twenty20 Championship in 2007 and Cricket World Cup in 2011. Despite making brief comebacks, Gambhir was unable to reclaim his past glory. Following this phase, he announced his retirement from all forms of Cricket on December 4, 2018.
