Widely renowned as one of the greatest players in the history of squash, Jahangir Khan has carved out a significant place for himself on the international sports scene. This Pakistan-born former professional squash player is particularly known for his winning streak from 1981 to 1986 during which he did not lose a single match – an achievement that speaks volumes about his sporting prowess.

Early Life and Career

Born on December 10th, 1963, in Karachi, Pakistan, Khan was introduced to the game at a very young age by his father Roshan Khan – another legendary figure in the world of squash. Tragedy struck early in Jahangir’s life when he lost his brother Torsam Khan due to a sudden heart attack while playing a game. Despite this heartbreaking event, Jahangir pressed forward with his training under the guidance of his cousin Rehmat Khan who was also a top-class squash player himself.

In 1979, at just fifteen years old, Jahangir astonishingly made it to the final of the World Amateur Championships where he eventually emerged victorious, displaying exceptional skill levels unforeseen in someone so young. His victory indeed set the tone for what was to come next – one glorious triumph after another that would help him swiftly ascend to the pinnacle of Squash.

Professional Successes

• The Unbeaten Streak: One of Jahangir’s most remarkable achievements was his unbeaten run spanning five years from 1981 to 1986 during which he won over 555 matches consecutively without losing any. This feat remains unparalleled till date achieving acknowledgment as “the longest winning streak by any athlete in top-level professional sports” as recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records.
• World Open Success: Outlining another significant milestone, he won the World Open six times – a record only equaled by Jansher Khan, another squash legend from Pakistan. Jahangir clinched his first World Open title in 1981 and continued to dominate this event through successive victories till 1984 and once more in 1985.
• British Open Victories: In addition to his other accomplishments, Jahangir claimed ten titles at the British Open – widely referred to as the ‘Wimbledon of Squash’ holding pride of place in its rich history. His reign at the British Open began with his first victory in 1982, after which he remained undefeated until his final win in 1991, marking an era of Pakistani dominance on the global squash scene.
