Jasu Patel was an Indian cricketer primarily known for his exceptional performances as a right-arm off-break bowler. Born on 26 November 1924 in Sunav, Gujarat, he actively participated as a test player from the year 1950 up until his retirement in 1960.

Jasu Patel’s cricketing journey began with playing domestic first-class cricket for Gujarat and later represented Holkar, Bombay, and Railways during different periods of his career. He debuted in international cricket against England at Lord’s Cricket Ground in 1950. While initially struggling to make an impactful performance at the international level, it was not long before Jasu rose to prominence and showed commanding skill as a spin bowler.

He is often remembered for taking nine wickets (9/69) in one innings against Australia at Kanpur in 1959. This magnificent performance fashioned a sensational victory for India by an innings margin – their first-ever win over Australia. During this match, Patel achieved a total haul of fourteen wickets which still remains among the best bowling figures produced by any Indian cricketer in Test matches till today.
