  • Cricket: In his illustrious career as a cricketer that spanned close to three decades, Gopalan represented Madras Presidency Matches, the Hindus team during Quadrangular tournaments, and Tamil Nadu and South Zone teams under Ranji Trophy. He played primarily as a right-hand batsman but also showed excellent skills as a fast bowler. Despite facing stiff competition from other accomplished players of the time, he managed to carve out a distinguished place for himself among their ranks.
  • Hockey: Alongside cricket, Gopalan showcased remarkable proficiency while wielding the hockey stick too. He was part of the Indian field hockey team for the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
