Rao was born on November 20th, 1929, in Bangalore, India. His passion for cricket emerged at an early age and he quickly escalated through the ranks due to his impressive performances in local leagues.

  • In total, between the years of 1948-1961, Rao played over 85 first-class matches primarily for Hyderabad cricket team.
  • Demonstrating astonishing skill – particularly like a right-handed batsman with exceptional bowler abilities – many considered him one of the finest all-rounders India had produced at that time.
  • Raising boasts still further, he became one of only three players in Ranji Trophy history to have achieved a rare double – scoring over 1000 runs and taking more than 100 wickets – alongside legends Vijay Hazare and C.K. Nayudu.
  • His career-best knock included a score of 204 against Andhra Pradesh joined by Ghulam Ahmed where they totaled a historic partnership – the highest ever for any wicket for then undivided Hyderabad Team which secured their place at hallowed height for future generations.
  • Despite his meritorious performance at domestic level, nationwide prominence evaded him thus remaining outside the purview of national selection throughout his career.

Apart from being a cricketer, Rao served the Andhra Pradesh State Electricity Board for over 30 years. After his retirement in 1961, he remained involved in cricket through coaching at different levels inspiring future aspiring talents.

In recognition of his significant contribution to Indian cricket, the Hyderabad Cricket Association named one of their elite leagues after him – known as MV Narasimha Rao Elite League, helping keep his legacy alive.

M.V. Narasimha Rao passed away on December 16th, 1997. Despite the height of his career coinciding with an era arguably dominated by other prominent figures, he was an outstanding talent whose contributions laid solid groundwork for coming generations within Indian cricket.
