The son of Tousif Ali, a farmer by profession and a fast bowler during his time, Mohammed Shami was introduced to cricket at an early age. In fact, he received nurturing right from home as he often played with his father and brother.

  • In November 2013, Shami made his Test debut against West Indies, where he notched up nine wickets and subsequently cornered all eyes upon himself. He demonstrated extraordinary ability with reverse swing bowling under the Indian conditions that favored spinners more than pacers.
  • Initially starting out as Bihar representative while playing domestic matches for Bengal, Shami’s credentials earned him a spot in the Kolkata Knight Riders team for the IPL season in 2011.
