Murali Kartik is an Indian cricketer known for his exceptional left-arm orthodox spin. He made an impactful mark in the world of cricket and has commendably won several matches for India, specially test games which are often regarded as a true testament to any cricketer’s prowess.
Early Life & Debut
Born on 11 September 1976, Murali Kartik hails from Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu. Inspired by the immense popularity and influence of Cricket in India, he started playing at a very young age. After honing his skills and demonstrating promising talent on local cricket grounds, he made his first-class debut during the 1996-1997 Ranji Trophy season representing Railways.
Kartik stepped into International Cricket making his Test debut against South Africa in Mumbai on February 2000 where he took three wickets. Although his One Day International career kicked off earlier when he played versus West Indies in September, 1999.
Career Highlights
- In 2004, Kartik churned out one of the best figures by an Indian bowler in ODI, claiming 6 for 27 against Australia.
- He became a constant face in the national side contributing exceptionally well through handy lower-order batting between 2004 -2007.
- In 2007, he had an outstanding game season with Lancashire, achieving three consecutive five-wicket hauls.
IPL Career
Apart from international cricket, Murali Kartik also stamped his presence significantly in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Starting his career in IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the year 2008, he had a successful run including a memorable spell of 4 overs, conceding only 23 runs and taking two crucial wickets.
In IPL 2011, he moved to Pune Warriors India where his performance was impressive. Later on, he played for several other teams such as Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab demonstrating great versatility

Murali Kartik called time on all forms of cricket in November 2014 after achieving abundant glory and recognition during his career spanning almost two decades.
