Patel’s professional cricketing journey began when he was selected for Gujarat under-16 at an early age. His exceptional performance did not go unnoticed and soon he grabbed the opportunity to represent the Indian team as a wicket-keeper replacing injured Ajay Ratra against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham in 2002 summer. At that time he was just 17 years old making him one of the youngest wicket-keeper in Test history.

Despite facing many ups and downs throughout his career including being out from the international format due to inconsistent performances or losing his position to another young brilliant talent Dinesh Karthik, Patel never backed down from any challenges. With sheer determination and hard work, Parthiv made impressive comebacks by refocusing on domestic games particularly Ranji Trophy where he brought laurels for his state team Gujarat with numerous unbeaten scores.

  • In November 2016, after eight long years Parthiv was recalled back into the national test team against England where he played crucial innings.
  • He captained Gujarat team to clinch their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2015-2016 and their first-ever Ranji Trophy title in the following season.
  • During India’s tour of South Africa in 2003, Patel smashed a match-winning fifty and became only the second youngest wicketkeeper after Pakistan’s Hanif Mohammad to score Test fifty.

On December 9, 2020, at age of The 35-year-old Parthiv announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Although he has retired as a player, he continues to contribute to the sport as different roles like strategic advisor or talent scout for teams.
