Rahul Sanghvi, born 3rd of December, 1974 in Bombay (now Mumbai) is a former professional Cricket player known for left-arm orthodox bowling. He was a part of the Indian Cricket team from 1998 to 2001 and played internationally.

Early Life and Debut

Sanghvi attended Don Bosco High School, where he developed his love for cricket. Following high school, he started playing professionally. He made his Test debut for India against Sri Lanka on August 24th, 1997. His One Day International (ODI) entry took place later that year against Pakistan.

Professional Career

  • The highest point in Rahul’s career would probably be when he picked up four crucial wickets during an ODI series game against Australia in Bangalore lifting India to victory after scoring 17 not out himself.
  • In total, Rahul has played one international test match and ten One Day Internationals (ODI). In his solo test match appearance, he could not register any significant statistical achievement, but it was different case in ODIs.
  • Despite being less employed because of more skilled partner spinners in Anil Kumble or Harbhajan Singh, throughout all his ODIs holds a respectable average wicket rate per innings.
  • In domestic cricket however, he had prominently shined with Delhi Cricket Team bringing home many victories.

Post Playing-Career & Recent Work

After retiring from active play due to injuries in 2005, Rahul transitioned into coaching and administration roles within the cricketing community.

  • He served as the assistant coach to Indian Premier League(IPL) team Mumbai Indians in 2008.
  • After his tenure with Mumbai, he moved on to become a part of National Cricket Academy (NCA), located in Bangalore, where specialists train upcoming budding cricketers.
  • In 2013, Rahul was appointed by Delhi Daredevils(now Capitals) as their team manager and has been held the position till date. Concurrently, he is also an ACA players’ representative since 2018.

Achievements & Accolades

Sanghvi’s notable performances throughout his career have earned him certain accolades:

  • He holds the best bowling record among left-arm spinners for India in ODIs- at Nairobi in Sep-Oct 1997 against Australia where he took 5 wickets giving away only 15 runs.
  • His remarkable performance led to an Indian win that day while Sanghvi became one of the few bowlers who took five wickets haul in their debut series match.
  • For his valuable contributions to Delhi, Sanghvi was awarded The Castrol Junior Cricketer of the Year in February 1998.
