International Career
Ashwin’s international career began with him debuting for India against Sri Lanka in June 2010. Since then, he established himself as a silent assassin who often trapped batsmen with his tricky off-break deliveries. By March 2021, Ashwin had taken more than 400 wickets in Test matches – making him only the fourth Indian bowler to achieve this feat.
- In 2016, he became the fastest Indian bowler (and second overall) to take 200 Test wickets.

Ravichandran Ashwin was born into a Tamil family; his father Ravichandran played cricket at club level as a fast bowler. Ashwin’s mother Chitra advised him to take up spin bowling seeing that his height would give him a advantage.
