Robin Singh, whose real name is Rabindranath Singh, is a former Indian cricket player who has made significant contributions in both the domestic and international cricket scene. He was an indispensable part of the Indian team due to his efficient fielding skills and all-round performance capabilities.

Born on September 14, 1963, in Princes Town, Trinidad and Tobago, Robin Singh moved to India at a young age for better education opportunities. His passion for cricket began during his time studying at Madras University where he was spotted by Tamil Nadu selectors for contributing vitally towards their successes across different tournaments.

  • The breakthrough: Robin’s established reputation enabled him to join Baroda for the Ranji Trophy season in 1986-87. Gaining momentum from impressively consistent performances there initially shaped his destiny into becoming one of India’s top-notch cricketers.
  • Debut: Robin made his One Day International (ODI) debut against West Indies on March 11, 1989. However, after playing just two more ODIs that year, he had to wait till almost a decade later to cement his spot in the national side due to intense competition within Indian cricket.
  • Comeback: The resilience shown by Robin culminated into a successful comeback with ‘The Coca Cola Cup’ tournament held in April-May period of 1997 eventually achieving recognition as being among the best fielders India ever produced.

Post retirement Robin Singh transitioned into a successful coaching career, training under-19 Mumbai team initially. His effective working style soon propelled him into becoming the coach of India’s Junior team in 2005 followed by assuming fielding coach position for India’s senior cricket team during 2007 – 2009 period. Since then has also coached various popular IPL teams such as Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians and now coaches Barbados Tridents in Caribbean Premier League.
