Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, popularly known as S. Sreesanth, is an acclaimed Indian cricketer recognized for his exceptional bowling skills and aggressive on-field attitude. Born on February 6th, 1983 in Kothamangalam, Kerala, India, he grew more passionate towards cricket from a young age.

Early Life and Career

In his early days, Sreesanth showed extraordinary performance at both school level competitions and youth state matches which got him selected into the Kerala Ranji Trophy team. His first breakthrough came during 2001-02 Ranji trophy where he became prominent because of his remarkable speed. Subsequently, his stellar outings caught the attention of national selectors leading to his inclusion in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

  • 2005: Made international debut in a Test match against England.
  • 2007: Played significant roles in winning the inaugural T20 World Cup.
  • 2011: Became part of the ICC Cricket World Cup winning squad.

IPL career

His IPL career flew off with Rajasthan Royals in 2008. In the inaugural season, Sreesanth’s spirited performances significantly contributed towards helping the Royals clinch their maiden title. He later played for Kings XI Punjab before running into legal troubles.

BCCI Ban and Court Case

Sreesanth’s cricketing voyage hit rough waters in 2013 when he was arrested under charges of spot-fixing during IPL season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) slapped him with a life-ban from playing any form of cricket.
After battling it out legally, his ban was reduced to 7 years by BCCI which ended in September 2020.

Comeback and Future Prospects

In the backdrop of all those events, Sreesanth made an impressive return to professional cricket in January 2021 after featuring in Kerala’s squad for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where he showcased notable performances leading Kerala to victory on several occasions.
Currently, he aspires to wear Indian jersey again and represent the country at the international level.
