Born on 8th September 1999, Shubman Gill is an Indian professional cricket player who plays as a right-hand top-order batsman. Born in Fazilka, Punjab, India to Lakhwinder and Keart Gill, his competitive sports spirit sparkled at a very young age with the continuous support of his father.
Career Highlights
- In January 2018 he made his debut for first-class cricket matches for Punjab during the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy season.
- The same year in December he played for India against Sri Lanka marking his Twenty20 match debut during ACC Emerging Players Tournament of Asia Cup.
- Shubman played a vital role in making India win the Under -19 Cricket World Cup in 2018 where he served as the vice-captain and was rewarded as best player of the series for scoring highest number of runs (372).
- Gill got selected by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during Indian Premier League (IPL) auction of 2018 and emerged as one of their key players.
- He earned Man of the Series title twice in Quadrangular series under-19 held in August 2017 & November 2017.
International Career Debut
Shubman Gill performed brilliantly on domestic grounds post which he received an opportunity to play for International cricket when opener KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya were suspended from playing due to controversial comments made off-field. In result, he made his Test debut for Indian National Team versus Australia held on 26th December 2020. He instantly grabbed attention by scoring two half-centuries on just four innings during that test series.

- In 2018, Shubman Gill obtained the award of ICC’s “Rising Star of the Squad” due to outstanding performances in Under- 19 World Cup.
- He also received BCCI Award for his incredible performance during Deodhar Trophy 2017-18 as Best Junior Cricketer.
- For showing exemplary cricket spirit in maiden Test series against Australia, he was bestowed with “Border-Gavaskar” scholarship by Australian Schoolboys organisation in 2020.
