Almost unparallel in the history of Indian Women’s cricket, Sreerupa Bose (Mukherjee), by sheer virtue of her talent and dedication, remains a central figure even after years of her retirement as an international cricketer. Sreerupa’s entry into professional cricket came when she made her one-day international debut against New Zealand on January 14, 1978. In her international career lasting just under two decades, she showcased significant skills and consistency.

  • In particular, distinction played their part when she assumed captaincy from Diana Edulji—the longest-serving Indian female cricketer—for a brief period. Under her leadership, the team sparked an uprising in the confidence level of its members.
  • During her tenure as team captain at Women’s World Cup during 1978, Bose hit her highest score—50 not out off 70 balls against England at Bangalore breathes evidence to it.

Her leadership stint ended earlier than expected due to sudden health problems.
