Stuart Binny: An Overview of His Life and Cricket Career
The name Stuart Binny is well-known among cricket enthusiasts around the world. A predominantly self-made cricketer, he has left indelible imprints on domestic as well as international platforms in the field of cricket.
Early Life: Grooming To Be a Cricketer
Born to former Indian Test cricketer Roger Binny, Stuart Terence Roger Binny grew up with dreams of cricket bats and pitches. He was born on June 3rd, 1984 in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Surprisingly though, unlike other cricketers who have early starts, his professional career began relatively late when he joined the ICL (Indian Cricket League). However, once it started, he seemed unstoppable.
The Cricket Journey
- In 2007, his journey began with ICL’s Hyderabad Heroes, contributing significantly to their winning streaks. When ICL became non-existent after BCCI (Board Of Control for Cricket in India) refused to recognize it due to its rivalry with IPL (Indian Premier League), most players’ careers came under threat. But not Stuart’s.
- In 2010, following the downfall of ICL where he served for two years, he made a comeback into mainstream cricket with first-class cricket where he played for his home state – Karnataka.
- In 2011-12 season of Ranji Trophy, a prestigious domestic tournament in India, Stuart surprised everyone by turning out to be the leading wicket-taker for Karnataka which earned him a chance at playing in IPL.
- Fate was on his side as he blossomed into an excellent cricketer under the guidance of his IPL team, Rajasthan Royal’s coach and former Australian spin-leg legend. His all-round performance for the Royals contributed mainly to their success in subsequent seasons.
- Binny made his international debut when he got selected for a tour against New Zealand in January 2014 and represented India at the Asia Cup and World Twenty20 in Bangladesh later that year.
- In July 2014, Binny delivered one of the most outstanding bowling spell against Bangladesh by taking six wickets while giving away only four runs which remains a record-breaking economy rate to date.
- His good form continued playing for Rajasthan Royals and subsequently earning him a place in India’s squad for the 2015 World cup.
The Concluding Career
In 2018, Stuart Binny moved from Rajasthan Royals to Bangalore Royal Challengers. However, he did not find much success with RCB or in domestic cricket afterwards. In November 2020
he was picked up by Nagaland cricket team during Ranji Trophy Player Draft but since COVID-19 enforced hiatus in cricket there has been no update about his career yet.
The Cricketer Beyond-Regular Cricket
Beyond his notable contributions to cricket, Stuart Binny is also recognized for his enduring spirit and consistent efforts despite many occasional setbacks throughout his career. He remains an important figure reminding us that talent can indeed withstand any challenge if fueled by sheer dedication and hard work.
Not just as a sportsperson, Stuart Binny is also celebrated off the field being married to popular sports journalist Mayanti Langer who herself has served notably in redefining representation of women in sports journalism of India. The pair are viewed as one of the cricket world’s power couples.
Stuart Binny’s journey mirrors a tale embedded with hard work, and persistence showing how excellence can be achieved through perseverance in spite of numerous challenges along the way.
