Born on June 6, 1970, in Gadag, Karnataka, Sunil Bandacharya Joshi is a retired Indian cricketer who made substantial contributions to the cricketing world during his active years.   • Domestic Career: Sunil Joshi’s career began playing for Karnataka in domestic cricket. His consistent performance ensured he was always one of the top picks, and hence kept adding multiple laurels to his portfolio. He played 160 matches in first-class cricket where he scored over 5000 runs and took more than 600 wickets.
  • International Debut: After making an impact at the regional level, Joshi debuted internationally against England in One Day International (ODI) series in May 1996 but unfortunately couldn’t make much difference with bat or ball.
  • Test Debut: Later in November 1996, Joshi played his first test match against England as well. His outstanding spell of five wickets for 142 earned him widespread recognition.
  • Farewell: Despite having significant talent and potential, Joshi’s international cricket career ended prematurely due to stiff competition within Indian cricket. He formally announced retirement from all forms of international and first-class cricket on June 21, 2012.

His final figures stand testament to his prowess – In the ODI format, Sunil managed to secure around 69 wickets alongside scoring above 500 runs whereas in Test cricket, he gleaned roughly 15 wickets and a score of around 352.

Joshi didn’t hang up his boots entirely. Instead, he moved on to contributing through other roles in the field of cricket. He ventured into coaching following his retirement and has been quite successful in the same arena:

  • Bangladesh Bowling Coach: Joshi was appointed as the spin bowling coach of Bangladesh National Cricket Team in August 2019.
  • National Selection Panel: On March 4, 2020, Joshi was appointed by The Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) as Chairman of national selection panel.
