Suru Nayak is a former Indian cricketer who has made considerable contributions to the world of sport. Born on August 21, 1958 in Bombay (now Mumbai), Prakash Keshav Nayak, popularly known as Suru Nayak, was right-hand batsman and medium-pace bowler.

Nayak carved out an impressive career at both domestic and international levels. Despite having a relatively brief stint in international cricket, he managed to leave his mark with notable performances for the Indian team.

  • In his debut first-class season for Bombay in 1977/78, Nayak emerged as one of the finest players, scoring two hundreds in Ranji Trophy matches against Baroda and Gujarat while also demonstrating remarkable bowling prowess under varying conditions.
  • His consistent performance elevated him to the international arena within three years when he secured a position in the touring squad for Australia during the 1980-81 series.
  • Weaving magic with the ball, he claimed four victims in five overs in the second test at Sydney but couldn’t help India secure a win over Australia.
  • The next opportunity came two years later when he played against Pakistan in Bangalore and Kolkata tests. However, these games didn’t turn out fruitful personally for him as he wasn’t able to demonstrate his potential fully.
  • Nayak’s last illustrious presentation came forth during the 1985/86 Ranji Trophy final where he hit an awe-inspiring double hundred causing troubled times for Delhi’s bowling department. His brilliant knock helped Bombay lift the trophy that year which epitomised Nayak’s contributions towards crucial victories achieved by Bombay during its dominant years.
