Natarajan comes from a poor family background where chances of nurturing any kind of sports were bleak. Yet, he developed an interest in cricket at a very young age. Originally, he played with tennis balls and gradually transitioned to professional leather-ball cricket. His breakthrough came when he got selected for TNPL (Tamil Nadu Premier League), post which his career only skyrocketed.

  • In the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy season, he took 24 wickets from five matches at an average rate of 16.25, showcasing exceptional bowling skills.
  • In October 2017, he made his List A debut for Tamil Nadu against Mumbai during the 2017-18 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
  • Natarajan was bought by Kings XI Punjab team for IPL in April 2017 but due to elbow injury couldn’t play much during that season.
  • The turning point of his career began when Sunrisers Hyderabad picked him for INR 40 lakhs (~$53K) in December 2019 IPL auction which helped boost his confidence tremendously.
  • He excelled in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 leading Sunrisers Hyderabad into the playoffs whilst taking crucial wickets.
  • His remarkable performance in IPL 2020 caught the eye of selectors and he was named as a reserve bowler for Australia tour late last year.
  • Natarjan made his international debut against Australia on December 2, 2020. He is now well fixed in becoming India’s premier death overs’ bowler.

Personal Life

Away from cricket, Natarajan leads a simple life. He tied the knot with Pavithra Mandal in November 2016. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in 2021 – at which time Natarajan was participating in the Indian bi-lateral series with Australia.
